Metal etching is essentially a linear medium, in which the composition is constructed of a network of lines. The lines can vary from fine and graceful to tight and scratchy. There are different techniques for achieving a wide range of tones. All of them are based on the use of a covering material to block desired areas of a metal plate that will be expose to an acid bath. Here a basic technique known as "Hard Ground" will help to explain this particular print making process.
